Happy Birthday Melisma!

it isn't often that i remember the first time i meet a person. but i remember meeting Melissa at the end of seminary one day. she turned around in the chair in front of me, struck up a conversation with Bradeigh and me and ended up joining us and the other "sunshiners" for fun at my house after school. after bradeigh and i talked about how fun she was and i was glad to be friends ever since. :)

when i think of melissa the first word that comes to mind is delight, the second is energy. all her creative and delightful sayings, her playful and yet rational perspective on the world, and her intense feelings, opinions, and passion for life -- what a combo! i still try to tell people about churds burping in the teetrops, but somehow i can never get it out like melissa does :). no way hose-A, not even hose-B (or would that be written jose and josb?).

melissa has an infectious laugh.

i love talking with her because she is real about life and experiences, she thinks and is willing to grow, and she can flavor it all with humor.

something i will never forget:
in the temple waiting room, just before Nick and Lynette's wedding. Melissa and Steve walked up, said hello, and i clearly felt the bond of unity and love between them. it was beautiful, good, and right. as we talked afterward, they attributed the sweetness i felt to some problems they had recently worked out. i learned much from that witness of the possibility of rightness and joy in marriage. i have often used that experience as a check for my own marriage: if someone else could feel the bond between us today, would it testify of our commitment and love for each other? i'm grateful for that example and lesson. it says a lot about the genuineness and authenticity with which Melissa (and Steve) lives her life.

what a wonderful woman!!!
